Bakelite is notoriously difficult to repair especially if there is a chunk missing from a conspicuous part of the cabinet, replacing the missing chunk isn’t really a problem and I’m pretty sure most radio restorer’s have at one time or another undertaken this type of repair and then refinished the cabinet with spray or May 15, 2006
